Very cool trip. loops nice- I let it cycle through 3 times - and the chord structure kept my interest up the whole time. I think I would have liked the melody up a bit more in the mix- the bass line really dominates. That being said - excellent work! Def will be checking out more of your work.

Calamaistr responds:

thank you i have alot of work uploaded heh.

Enjoyable listen. Very mellow and the climax kept it interesting - was worth playing twice while I browsed around.

Excellent. The sample at the end really pushed it over the edge for me. Very ambient, chill beat. Loving the kind of stripped down feel of this one. Your work is consistently dope.

BOULLIE responds:

Thanks!

The beat was not bad, thought it also didn't jump out at me. What really took away from this songs potential to me was the in-song self promotion... I winced evertime the deep voice said "Cruel tool music" I don't think you could make an argument for it adding to the song. That being said, if this was given to the right MC- i think it could morph into something pretty interesting. Look forward to hearing your future work. Cheers!

Crueltool responds:

If you know, i sell beats... But some people here in NG can ask me for beat, and i send em without TAGz for free... I think you just little hater-boy. good luck!

I think you have some cute content here. I particularly like the little run at :23 . I think something that would have helped this song a lot is a little drums. It has a very bouncy feel that would lend itself well to some simple rhythm addition. This is furthered by the huge cymbal crashes you use (which are a tad high in the mix) which beckon at your access to drums. Otherwise, I liked where you were going with this song- it would be nice in a level-up screen or something of the like.

Merpy responds:

thanks
i didn't add drums because i couldn't find good drums on fl studio
(i deleted the default set by accident and i didn't want to remake this song)
and your music is really good
what program do you use for
"The town that lies between"

I think you have a very nuanced and gentle stroke to your playing. The gradual change in dynamic around 1:10 was exactly what the piece needed to keep your attention and give it that little push into greatness. This really is a nice composition, my only criticism from viewing all the work you have uploaded is that I would like to hear a little more variety. You are clearly very talented, both as a player and as a composer- and I think it could be an interesting exercise for you to attempt something stylistically that you have never tried before- just pick an idea in unfamiliar terrain and run with it. That of course, is just my two cents. This song, and your work as a whole though is great overall- I really enjoy your style and look forward to hearing future compositions.

FooRight responds:

As much as I wish I could say that I played this, alas, it is a composition in a software called Sibelius, which has a playback feature that can also export the audio.

Variety is something I've definitely been attempting. So I agree wholeheartedly about expanding my style to encompass a greater range of feeling!

Thank you!

I really enjoy this one. I think you accomplished the imagery you were aiming for. I particularly like the beginning; I think the soft, warm string pad really compliments the harder, busier "reverse" feel in the lead. From seeing your other work, I personally feel like putting in some extra time on this song - adding a bit more to the end and making it loop (due to your proficiency in looping) would have been worth it. I think you had enough material to be interesting on a second pass at least.

SonicJ responds:

Thank you for the review ! I appreciate your analysis on my imagery for this song, it's spot on! It's a bit hard for me to continue to working on songs since I don't own the full version of Fl studio, so a lot of my projects tend to be cut short due to the circumstances.

Dude, your beats are ridiculous.
I love your style, you manage to make everything tripped out and maintain an unrelenting neck injuring pocket. Seriously great work.

BOULLIE responds:

Thanks for the props man.

Easily the best hip-hop I've come across on newgrounds. Fantastic work. Vaguely brings to the synapses Nujabes. I will def check out more of your work.

BOULLIE responds:

Thanks man >.>

Well done!

Great job! What kind of kazoo did you use and how did you record it?

I can see why youd be hard on yourself about this recording, but its really well done considering- and the idea alone gives it a lot of credit.... its use in the flash was fantastic too.
